That is why at Midtown Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services, we provide in-home cat and dog euthanasia services to the Toronto community because we want to help owners give their pets the most loving, peaceful, and stress-free passing possible. Our team of qualified mobile veterinarians can travel to many cities within the Greater Toronto Area, including but not limited to Mississauga, Newmarket, and Oshawa. The Benefits of In-Home Pet Euthanasia
Choosing in-home euthanasia allows you to be more involved and comfortable in every aspect of your pet’s final moments. It allows you and others who love and care for your pet to be present and grieve in private. It also avoids the stress and/or pain your pet may experience when being transported to a veterinary clinic, especially when your pet’s mobility or your ability to move them may be a factor. In-home euthanasia allows your beloved pet to spend their final moments at home. We consider it an honour to support you through this difficult time.
The following are a few of the reasons why you may want to euthanize at home instead of at the veterinary clinic:
- Both you and your pet may be less anxious while in comfortable and private surroundings
- You may wish for your other pets, children, family or friends to be present during the goodbye process
- Your pet can stay in their favourite spot at home while you say your goodbyes
- In-home euthanasia is a much more intimate, controlled and personal experience which may benefit all of those involved
What to Expect During an In-Home Euthanasia Appointment
Our in-home euthanasia visits typically last about an hour, giving you and your pet unhurried time together in the comfort of home. Your veterinarian will take time to listen, answer questions, and walk you through every step with care. You’ll be asked to sign a consent form, which also includes your aftercare preferences.
The process begins with a calming sedative, gently given in the muscle of your pet's back end area. As it takes effect, your pet will become relaxed and peacefully fall into a deep sleep. When they are fully at rest, the veterinarian will administer the final medication to help them pass gently and without pain.
Afterward, we offer a clay paw print and a fur clipping—if you wish—as heartfelt keepsakes at no extra cost. These small touches often bring comfort in the days to come.
If you’ve chosen aftercare with us, your pet will be wrapped in a soft blanket and carried with great care to the vet’s vehicle. They will be taken to our sister company, Faithful Pet Memorial, where they’ll remain in the trusted hands of our compassionate team. Faithful Pet offers water-based cremation (aquamation), private and communal options, visitation, and a selection of beautiful keepsakes and urns. Flame cremation can also be arranged through a third-party provider, if you prefer.
