Cat and Dog Hospice Consultations in Toronto
Has your pet been diagnosed with a terminal illness or are you worried about their quality of life? Our Toronto mobile hospice service offers consultations to guide you on the next steps.
We provide two types of telemedicine consultations: a 1-hour quality of life assessment with a registered veterinary technician (RVT) or a 1-2 hour hospice consultation with a veterinarian. Both are available Monday through Friday, and we use platforms like Zoom or FaceTime to observe your pet in their own environment and support you through this difficult time.

Quality of Life Assessment for Your Pet
If you are having feelings of guilt about euthanizing your pet or you are not sure if this is the right time to do so, a consultation with one of our specially trained registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) may help make this heart-wrenching decision easier. We will discuss several ways to determine your pet’s quality of life. Your pet trusts and relies on you to decide what is best for them. So together, you and one of our RVTs will evaluate your own needs and concerns and those of your pet.
We will discuss the manner in which you may want your pet to pass, along with your desires for marking or memorializing your pet exactly the way you want. Although these are very difficult and emotionally charged discussions, owners will often cope better with the loss of their pet if they have prepared for it through these discussions.
Please note: this is a non-medical assessment so the RVT is unable to change or prescribe medications. If necessary, a follow-up consultation appointment can be scheduled with one of our veterinarians, at an additional cost.

Pet Hospice Consultation Appointment
The hospice consultation with one of our compassionate veterinarians will begin with a review of your pet’s medical history and in-take form (sent via email before your appointment), followed by a discussion of your pet’s current condition or illness. Time will be spent discussing your pet’s activities of daily living including nutritional and hydration needs, pain management, assessment of quality of life and much, much more.
An in-depth conversation regarding your concerns, fears, needs, and goals regarding the condition of your pet including frank discussions about your pet’s nearing end of life and possible euthanasia, where appropriate, will also occur. Feelings of anticipatory grief will be discussed when deemed necessary. You will then receive a personalized care plan, as well as prescriptions for any recommended medications, if needed.
All of the information shared during the consultation will be included in your personalized plan, as well as information and action plans to help ensure your pet does not suffer during his or her last months, weeks or days at home. 30 minute follow-up appointments can be arranged via telemedicine, as necessary, at an additional cost.
