What is the Smudge Fund?

The Smudge Fund is named in loving memory of Dr. Faith Banks’ first Bernese Mountain Dog, Smudge, who was the inspiration behind the creation of Midtown Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services. It was established in July 2020 to assist families who may not otherwise be able to afford to say goodbye to their beloved pets in the comfort and privacy of home. Thanks to generous donations from our clients, members of our own team and fellow animal lovers in our community, the Smudge Fund has helped over 100 families ease the financial burden at a very stressful time.

Looking for Another Way to Help?

Consider purchasing one of our limited edition Smudge Fund candles. These “Paws to Remember” memorial candles have been created exclusively for MMVHS/FPM. They are a perfect way to honour your own beloved pet, to honour a dear pet of someone you know, or simply to provide a unique gift while at the same time paying it forward to another family who may not otherwise be able to afford to say goodbye to their beloved pets in the comfort and privacy of home.

These locally made, hand-poured, soy wax aromatherapy candles are non-toxic for both humans and pets and feature notes of smooth sandalwood, a hint of exotic saffron, and earthy cedar, bringing a cozy, woodsy vibe to your home.

Each limited edition candle is 16 oz, has a burn time of approximately 50 hours and includes a gift tag for personalization. The candle is $40 + tax and $20 from each candle purchase will be donated to the Smudge Fund.

Please call us at 416-817-3572 or email us at info@mmvhs.ca to place an order.

Once your order has been confirmed, the candles can be picked up from our hospice centre at 181 Weston Road between Monday-Friday 8am-4pm or Saturdays 10am-2pm. Please note: The Smudge Fund is not a registered charity and therefore we cannot provide tax receipts. Thank you for helping us help other pet parents!
